## Arriving in Buenos Aires ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-001_web.jpeg]] After leaving Palm Springs, our first stop -- Phoenix! ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-002_web.jpeg]] Then Miami, where we met up with Mom and Dad. ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-003_web.jpeg]] Mom and Dad settling in on the overnight flight. ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-004_web.jpeg]] Will they get any sleep? Just a bit. ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-005_web.jpeg]] Checking back in for our next flight in Lima, Peru. The line was long and we were starting to get a little nervous. They called for folks on our flight to join a shorter line at another desk to expedite us and we made it onto our next flight without issue. ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-006_web.jpeg]] Our room at Mio Buenos Aires, a boutique hotel in the Recoleta neighborhood. This is the upstairs bedroom in our hotel room. ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-007_web.jpeg]] Swanky place -- the downstairs was a living room and powder room. ## Recoleta ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-008_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-009_web.jpeg]] Nuestra Señora del Pilar, the basilica that sits just outside the cemetery gates. ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-010_web.jpeg]] Buenos Aires at dusk from the hotel room. ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-011_web.jpeg]] Havanette — a chocolate and dulce de leche cake with a shortbread base. Incredible, and you can buy little cone-shaped dulce de leche treats for an individual-sized version of it. (I bought a box of six before we got on the cruise ship to have as stateroom snacks.) ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-012_web.jpeg]] Here we go, Buenos Aires! ## Recoleta Cemetery ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-013_web.jpeg]] Huge, ornate, sprawling, and beautiful! ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-014_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-015_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-016_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-017_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-018_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-019_web.jpeg]] The Duarte family tomb — resting place of Eva Perón. ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-020_web.jpeg]] Municipal plaque honoring Evita, from the town of Los Toldos where she was born. ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-021_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-022_web.jpeg]] Mom pointing out one of Evita's plaques. ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-023_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-024_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-025_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-026_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-027_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-028_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-029_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-030_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-031_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-032_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-033_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-034_web.jpeg]] ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-035_web.jpeg]] The Mio gave us peppermint patties, which I definitely stashed away for "stateroom snacks" on the ship. ## Embarkation Day ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-036_web.jpeg]] The embarkation hall at Terminal de Cruceros Quinquela Martín — packed and buzzing. We had a bit of a wait being Group 31 (you can see the sign in the back - Group 16 currently called.) ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-037_web.jpeg]] ## Onboard Celebrity Equinox ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-038_web.jpeg]] First cheers of the trip. ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-039_web.jpeg]] Mom and Doug on the Equinox deck with Buenos Aires alongside us. ![[2026-02-SA-BuenosAires-Embark-040_web.jpeg]] Tango performance onboard — a fitting send-off from Argentina.
